Part costume contest, part baseball game, and entirely a joke on the economic recession, Obscure Games Pittsburgh invites players to don 1930′s-era clothing and come out for a friendly game of stickball in the Strip District, April 25th at 3pm. Registration is open to anyone age 18 and over, but there are a limited number of spots. A $5 donation is also requested. Go to http://obscuregamespgh.com/?page_id=333 to register as an individual or group and receive more information via email.
For those of you who don’t know, stickball is a street game similar to baseball, played with a broom handle and a rubber ball and using empty city streets as a playing field. Popular among youths in eastern cities from 1920 to 1980, stickball is still played in areas of New York. In Pittsburgh, Obscure Games is bringing stickball back, complete with period clothing and 1930′s slang. All that is required to play is a close approximation of Depression-style clothing and a hearty sense of humor. Unlike most of our Sunday games, this one will start at 3 pm, and will be played in a secret location somewhere in the Strip District. Register for the event to get more information.
